Ariosto Room

Ariosto Room
The ceiling of the room is frescoed and has some stucco medallions on the cornices representing the founders of the library. The monumental tomb of Ariosto was designed by Aleotti in 1612 and commissioned by the great poet's nephew. On the two external columns there are two small statues representing Poetry and Fame. The monument has a heroic-romantic decoration, with angels and putti, flames, flowers and draperies, showing a scenographical and antirethorical taste: the armour on the right side is an allegory of epic poetry. The whole fresco, executed between 1803 and 1806 is a work by the painter Giuseppe Santi.
