Mourning on Christ
The mourning on Christ is placed along the entrance wall on the left. It is composed bya group of eight statues in polychrome terracotta executed by Guido Mazzoni on the orderof Duchess Eleonora of Aragon. The finished work was placed in the no more existing church of Santa Maria della Rosa in 1485 it was transferred here in 1938.
According to the tradition the seven statues portray some members of the court, and moreparticularly the two statues on the far right represent the duke Ercole I d'Este and his wife Eleonora of Aragon.
