Fossil Dunes of Massenzatica Reserve

This area, covered in dunes running in a North-South direction, is recognised by archaeologist as being one of the former coastlines of the Adriatic during the Etruscan period.
Fossil Dunes of Massenzatica Reserve

Generally known as Monticelli, the area consists of dunes six to eight metres or more high, which stand above the surrounding plain. This particular environment is inhabited by foxes and various kinds of rodents.

Opening

You can enter the oasis only with a guided tour. It's also possible to walk along a path that goes around the dunes. Guided tours are available calling W.W.F, tel. 0532 60009, 0339 5996650.

How to get here

The dunes rise between the villages of Massenzatica and Italba.
By car: from Bosco Mesola take the road to Ariano Ferrarese-Berra up to Massenzatica, then turn left towards Pontelangorino - Codigoro.
