Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art 'Filippo De Pisis'

Following these are works by Aroldo Bonzagni and Achille Funi, a painter who imitated the classical style. One room is dedicated to the sculptures of Minerbi, Virgili, Giacomelli, Nenci and Zucchini. The collection of paintings then continues with Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi and Aldo Bandinelli. The work of Roberto Melli a Ferrarese artist who was interested in the value of light and its emotional possibilities occupies two rooms.
The entire second half of the museum is dedicated to the work of Filippo De Pisis (1896-1956) after whom it is named. A very original artist who was a poet as well as a painter, throughout his work he managed to transmit a kind of dark melancholy that alternated with the search for a cosmic dimension. His colours in particular are unmistakable, passing from pastel to dark tones, which at times are broken up, almost wounded, by vivid dashes. There is a high number of still lifes, one of his cherished genres and one that clearly shows the influence of Giorgio Morandi. The disturbing theme of dead animals is also common. Among his many paintings of flowers mention must be given to the splendid Carnation Struck by Lightning of 1930. His portraits are of great intensity. The last room contains a small portion of the painter’s drawings, among which are many male nudes.
