Lampi sublimi a Ferrara

Bastianino and the construction of San Paolo. Exhibition at the National Picture Gallery of Ferrara.
Event image

This exhibition shows works of art by Dosso and Battista Dossi, Tiziano, Camillo Filippi, Giorgio Ghisi, Ludovico Settevecchi, in order to explain the cultural background of Bastianino, a mysterious painter, who has been told to be “different from anyone else” (Barotti 1620), and who “formed his nudes… as pieces of glass… thrown all in a sudden”(Superbi 1770).

In 1963,  Francesco Arcangeli wrote a monographic text about the painter, expressing the sense of  morphological dissolution in his very personal rien est materiel dans l'espace.

In 2014, after many years of abandon, restoration works have started at the church of San Paolo: many paintings from this beautiful church moved to the National Picture Gallery of Ferrara, so that this first public exhibition was possible.
