A shrine full of extraordinary treasures, the Estense Galleries (Modena-Ferrara-Sassuolo) will offer to the public, from december 2018, some unmissable news.
From December 13th, ten rooms of the National Picture Gallery of Ferrara at Palazzo dei Diamanti will be reopened after a complete renewal. Important pieces by Gentile da Fabriano, Mantegna, Cosmè Tura, and Ercole de’ Roberti will be available to the public, within a new exhibition itinerary, enriched with information panels and graphic reconstructions from the 14th to the 18th Century. A new light is also given to the 17th and to the 18th Century, with four brand new rooms, additional to the room dedicated to Scarsellino and Bononi in 2016.
The restoration has added a new room dedicated to the Study of Belfiore. Here, from December 13th 2018 to April 22nd, 2019, the exhibition Cantieri paralleli. Lo studiolo di Belfiore e la Bibbia di Borso. 1447-1463 will be organized by Marcello Toffanello. A very special work of art will be on display: Muse Polymnia, from Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, at leats riunite to Erato and Urania from Palazzo dei Diamanti. They all come from the decorative system of the place where Marquis Leonello d’Este practiced meditation as well as intellectual pleasures in the mid-15th Century.
The exhibition also offers the opportunity to admire the beautiful Bible of Borso d’Este, which decoration – a precious sample of Italian inlumination work – has been made by Matteo Crivelli and Franco dei Russi and their team. This was the second great “work in progress” in the 15th Century’s Ferrara.
A rich selection of medals, coins and gems are also on display from the Galleria Estense in Modena. Moreover, a “touch-screen” system will show the pages of the Bible, enlarging the miniatures and also visiting the Study of Belfiore, with its beautiful Muses.
